Hagedorn Focuses on Ag in Pair of Faribault Visits
FARIBAULT, Minn. – Today, Rep. Jim Hagedorn focused on agriculture in two visits in Faribault, Minn. First, Hagedorn visited turkey industry leader, Jennie-O Turkey Store. Then Hagedorn attended the grand opening of the Living Greens Farm, one of the world’s largest indoor farms. Hagedorn said:
“Leaders like Jennie-O Turkey Store and Living Greens Farm are using cutting-edge agricultural technology to bring exceptional food to their customers. These industry leaders don’t only serve their customers, but they serve the region by creating jobs and promoting economic opportunity.
“Growing up on a grain and livestock farm near Truman, I realize the time, energy and dedication our agriculture producers pour into their work. Through my role on the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, I hope I can recognize their fine efforts and encourage commonsense federal agricultural policy. This means removing excessive regulations and extreme environmental rules that adversely affect Minnesota’s First District. It also means opening up markets and trade opportunities to promote some of the world’s finest agriculture products, grown right here in Minnesota.”
Minnesota is the top turkey producer in the nation. Jennie-O Turkey Store, owned by Hormel Foods, employs nearly 7,000 employees at its locations, including approximately 750 in Faribault. According to its website, it produces more than 1,500 products and has been a recognized leader in the turkey industry for over 70 years.
Living Greens Farms is an aeroponic farm that supplies salads and herbs to grocery stores. According to its website, the farm uses vertical indoor farming technology that requires no soil and limited water.
Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and southern Minnesota’s way of life.
