Hagedorn on State of the Union: "We Have Great Opportunities Ahead of Us"

WASHINGTON - Tonight U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) attended his first State of the Union address as the representative for Minnesota's First District. Hagedorn provided the following statement:

"President Trump has been a champion for the American people and his State of the Union address outlined his continued commitment to our nation’s future. Tonight, the President asked the Congress to join him to advance policies that will protect the American people and bring greater prosperity to our nation.

“I am committed to partnering with President Trump and all willing Members of Congress to keep America safe with secure borders and a military policy of peace through strength; keep the U.S. economy growing with high-wage jobs by reforming the federal government in the areas of regulations, taxes, health care, welfare and energy; and, protect our God-given U.S. Constitutional rights, especially the right to life, the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and the right to religious freedom.

“I will also work with the administration and utilize my appointments to the House Agriculture and Small Business Committees to sustain agriculture, Main Street enterprises and our southern Minnesota way of life.

“The President and I share similar legislative goals. I will always defend the economic interests and reflect the views and values of First District residents. It is my every hope that Republicans and Democrats will work cooperatively to enact the solutions needed to restore America’s greatness.”

Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and southern Minnesota’s way of life.
