Press Release
Small Business Week is May 5 - May 11

MANKATO, Minn. – Rep. Jim Hagedorn (MN-01), who serves on the House Committee on Small Business, released the following statement for Small Business Week, May 5 - May 11:

“During Small Business Week, we reflect on the substantial contributions small businesses make to our communities and our economy. Small businesses are the job-creating backbone of our economy.

“According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Minnesota is home to more than 500,000 small businesses. These small businesses employ more than one million people, or 48 percent of the private workforce.

“As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, I am fighting for pro-growth policies to reduce burdens on entrepreneurs and help them innovate, access new markets and capital, and offer high-wage jobs. I’m fighting for additional tax reform, intellectual property-rights, portable health benefits, and transportation and infrastructure improvements to bring prosperity to our Main Streets.”

During a recent House Committee on Small Business meeting to consider legislation, Hagedorn offered an amendment to expand government contracting opportunities. Hagedorn’s amendment preserved jobs by removing ambiguity in defining what constitutes a small business by requiring the Small Business Administration to implement the Small Business Runway Extension Act as intended by Congress. Hagedorn’s amendment received unanimous approval. Watch the committee video.

Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and southern Minnesota’s way of life.
