Hagedorn Statement on Subcommittee Assignments for Agriculture and Small Business Committees
WASHINGTON – Rep. Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) has received his subcommittee assignments for the 116th Congress. Hagedorn will serve on the Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee and the Nutrition, Oversight and Department Operations Subcommittee of the Committee on Agriculture. On the Committee on Small Business, Hagedorn will serve on the Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade and Entrepreneurship Subcommittee and the Contracting and Infrastructure Subcommittee.
The Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee for the Committee on Agriculture will give Hagedorn an opportunity to tout Minnesota’s leading status as a livestock producer. Nationally, Minnesota ranks first in turkey production and Minnesota’s First District is the second largest hog producing congressional district in the country. Hogs make up more than a third of Minnesota’s livestock production and are the state’s top livestock export. Livestock exports account for 20 percent of Minnesota’s total agricultural exports.
Hagedorn provided the following statement about his subcommittee assignments:
“These assignments give me an opportunity to promote pro-growth agricultural policies and advocate for small businesses along with their employees in Minnesota’s First District. Growing up on a grain and livestock farm near Truman, I realize how important farm-friendly policies are to our community. I regularly meet with farmers and ag-dependent organizations so their voice is heard in Congress.
“My staff and I are working with the Small Business Administration and small business development centers throughout the district to foster entrepreneurship and bring greater prosperity to Main Street.
“Small businesses and our farmers share similar goals. They want policies that reduce the cost of business, access new markets and offer patient-centered health care solutions. By limiting government intrusion into the lives of Southern Minnesotans, we can help small businesses and farms grow and thrive.”
Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and southern Minnesota’s way of life.
