Hagedorn Supports Full Funding of Physical Barrier on Southern Border
WASHINGTON – Today, House Democrats forced a vote on a measure to block President Donald Trump’s declaration of national emergency and actions to fund physical barriers at the Southern border of the United States.
U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) has long supported an array of measures to secure America’s borders, implement merit-based immigration, create a verifiable work program and restore the rule of law.
“Border security is national security,” said Hagedorn. “At any point since the Reagan administration any president could have rightfully declared a national emergency due to the chaos occurring on America’s Southwest border.
“I support the President’s effort to defend the United States and protect the American people; therefore, I voted against the Democrats’ politicized resolution.
“We finally have a President who is serious about border security and solving the problem of illegal immigration. The President’s proposal to build 243 miles of physical barrier for less than $6 billion is reasonable. Congress should have long ago funded this priority without reservation.”
Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and southern Minnesota’s way of life.
